Members have rental access to studio facilities, tools and equipment; firing privileges; display space at Tahanan Pottery Shop; exhibition space; free consultation on personal creative projects with Tahanan Resident Potters; exclusive member notifications on Tahanan events, new program offerings, product lines, sales, and discounts.
    1. Attendance
All students must sign in via the Attendance Sheet at the front desk.

    2. Clay Allocation
Students shall be allocated the specified amount of clay they will need to finish their class project. Clay left over from the class project shall be returned to Tahanan.

    3. Additional Clay and Firing Charges
Should a student opt to purchase additional clay while enrolled in the class, the student shall be charged for the clay and corresponding firing charges. This is to differentiate a student's personal clay from the clay allocated in the class.

    4. Tools & Equipment
Class tools and equipment will be provided on loan during the session/s. All tools must be cleaned and returned in the allocated basin for inventory checking of teachers and staff. All Tahanan tools and equipment are for studio use only. Students enrolled in a class may bring their own personal pottery tools. Please label them with your name. Pottery Tool Kits are available at the shop should you be interested.

    5. Work Monitoring Procedures
All student’s works must be stamped with the teacher’s alphanumeric code and signed with the student's name. Unmarked works may not be claimed without proof of ownership. Students are encouraged to take pictures of their works during each stage of the process for future identification purposes.

    6. Works in Progress
Students must cover works in progress properly with plastic sheets. This must be labeled with your name to avoid it being mishandled by other students looking for their works. Place your works on your teacher’s designated shelf rack.

    7. Clean-Up and Pack-Up
Students are tasked to pack-up and clean their work area, tools, and equipment, ensuring they are free from clay or glaze residue, at least 15 minutes before class ends. Students must turn off the pottery wheels they used.

    8. Clay Reclaiming Systems
The stainless-steel sinks have a clay reclaiming tank and must only be used for washing items with clay residue. All leather hard, bone-dry clay, and clay slop from the wheel must be dumped into the slop bucket first before the basins are rinsed in the sink. All leather hard and bone-dry clay from hand-building clay projects are placed in a separate basin found beside the sink. All left-over clays from hand-building classes must be sprayed profusely with water, sealed in the bag, and then placed on the work table.

    9. Health and Safety Protocols
    • Students are not allowed to go near the kilns, whether it is firing or not.
    • Students must not allow prolonged contact with glazes on the skin. Wash hands properly after glazing.
    • Students with allergies must provide their own dust mask and/or surgical gloves.
    • No eating and drinking inside the studios unless your hands have been thoroughly washed and your work area is free from clay and glaze dust.
    • No smoking inside the studios and shop. The garage fronting the glazing area is the designated smoking area.

    10. Make-up Sessions
    • Forming Session: Only one make-up session will be scheduled with students enrolled in the class regardless of the number of sessions missed. All make-up sessions are scheduled before the glazing session and within the duration of the class, on an agreed date and time with Tahanan.
    • Glazing Session: Should students be absent on the last day of the classes or the glazing session, students through Tahanan, may make arrangements with the teacher for a dedicated make-up glazing session. Should the teacher be unavailable, students may opt to wait for their teacher’s next glazing session with the next batch of students or join an upcoming glazing session with another teacher.

    11. Studio Use
Students are allowed to complete their projects or to practice in the studio an hour before or after their classes. Please confer with Tahanan to make such arrangements. Students have rental access to the studio at any other time or day, subject to availability of facilities. Please set an appointment with Tahanan to make sure a space or wheel is available for your use.

    12. Security of Belongings and Works
    • Personal belongings may be stored in the lockers provided at the Shop. There is also a storage space under the worktables.
    • Do not touch other students’ works, whether they are works in progress, bisque fired, glazed, or finished works.

    13. Glazing and Firing
All works must be submitted during the second to the last session of the class. Works submitted after this session may not be fired in time for the last session or glazing session. Students may glaze their remaining works on an agreed schedule with Tahanan and Studio Use Fee will apply.

Students must properly glaze their works to avoid thick applications and glaze residue at the bottom of their works. Any loss or damages to kiln shelves due to improper glaze application and procedures may be charged to responsible parties.

    14. Claiming of Works
Tahanan will notify students when works are ready for claiming. Works may be claimed only up to one and a half months after the class ends. Unclaimed works shall be disposed of or sold in Tahanan’s Clearance Sales. Students must sign for all claimed works.
